Overheard in a coffee shop in a wealthy college town: “Before he got the BMW, he was driving the Porsche every day to work. He felt embarrassed.” In other words, he felt embarrassed about driving a luxury car to work, so he bought another, slightly cheaper luxury car. I can usually repress and even ironize my Simmering Class Resentment, but not today.
